History of Delhi

Delhi, which dates back to the 6th century, has survived numerous invasions over the centuries. Anciently known as Indraprastha, it is said to have been founded by the mythical pandavas in the ancient times. The seventh city, the walled city of Old Delhi, was constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan, in 1639, when he moved the Mughal capital from Agra, and it served as the new capital.It is clearly seen in the history of Delhi, that during the British colonial rule, that the city experienced some significant developments, and India also witnessed the rise of the New Delhi, which became the Seat of the government when India became independent of the British. After The violent partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, millions of refugees, mainly from West Punjab, flocked here in Delhi search of a new life. Since then there has been a steady influx of people from all over India.
