Sreedharan is the man who gave Delhi its first metro. Affordable and convenient, something that the city
desperately needed to cut down traffic on roads; it has become the lifeline of the city. You can take a ride from
anywhere to almost everywhere without having to worry about the changing buses, or bargaining with autowalas.
The metro is operational in 3 lines. If your tour for the day isn’t planned, just look around the stations to find
information about nearby monuments. The Jor Bagh station has information on nearby Safdarjung Tomb and Lodhi
Garden. Then there is the gold star station which is also the Kashmere Gate station serves as the headquarters for
the Delhi Metro. Line 2 takes you to Old Delhi, New Delhi railway station, ISBT and Paharganj. Line 3 takes you to
Karol Bagh. While on the Metro, newcomers should be careful as the Metros use the new Indian names, so
Connaught Place is Rajiv Chowk, Old Delhi Railway Station is Chandni Chowk and ISBT is Kashmere Gate. Just
imagine the fun you can have in Rs 70 a day, and travel as much as you want with the ‘Tourist Card’.
BY ROAD: The real Delhi is the monuments, the narrow lanes, the tight bazaars, scorching heat, kids selling towels
and romantic novels in the packed traffic, the sky high towers. Discover the wonderment, as there is plenty to see.
Sight see as the taxi or bus takes you around the town, while taking you through a trip you will never forget. All this
cannot be seen if you travel by the Metro. It is advisable to wear loads of sunscreen and cover yourself if you don’t
want a heat stroke, while commuting through the cycle rickshaw. Other than auto rickshaws and prepaid cabs, you
can rent a car too. Chauffeur driven or the self drive, the packages are quite flexible.
