Sainik School erstwhile known as the Jagajit Palace. It served the royal palace of Maharaja of
Kapurthala District. It was started building in 1900 and got completed in 1908. Its Architectural
style was inspired from Palace of Versailles of France. The area of Jagajit palace measures 1961
kanals and 18 marlas. The blue print of the palace was designed by a French architect M Marcel
and built by local builder Allah Ditta. Durbar Hall also known as Diwan E Khas, presents
magnificent architecture. It is built in French style of architecture and its painted ceilings are
worth to mention.
In 1961, Sainik School was inaugurated in the palace by the defence minister VK Krishna Menon with
the aim to prepare boys academically, physically and mentally to make them to join the NDA. It is
residential school meant for boys only. It also imparts public school education which encourage
students to give their best.
Many pass outs cadets from this school has been outstanding in armed forces. At least 700 cadets from
this school join Indian Army through NDA.
