Mangalore is a beautiful city and the chief port in the state of Karnataka. Known as Mangaluru in Kannada, Maikala in Beary and Kodial in Konkani, the name of Mangalore is derived from the word Mangaladevi, a Hindu Goddess. It is located 350 kilometers from the Bangalore, which is the state capital of Karnataka.
The history of the city is very closely related to the mythology and hence it is also considered an important part of the Parashurama Shristi. Mangalore is also the largest city in the Malnad and Coastal region. It is the second largest city in Karnataka in terms of the economy and also the 13th most favorable destination for business purposes. The city is also one of the selected hundred cities to be developed as smart cities under the PM Narendra Modi’s flagship Smart Cities Mission.
