Places to Visit Gwalior

Gwalior Fort:
'A pearl among fortresses in India' was built by Raja Man singh Tomar. The Gwalior Fort is situated near the water pools. It is the witness of many ruling dynasties. It is located 100 meters above the city on the hill Gopachal. It consists of three temples, six palaces and a large number of water tanks.

Man Mandir:
It was built by Raja Man Singh Tomar in between 1486 and 1517. Most of the ornamentation has been faded with time yet the architecture style still tells about the glory of this building. It is noteworthy to watch the pattern and motif. The Suraj Kund pond is also situated in this palace.

Teli-ka-Mandir:
It was built in 9th AD and is 100ft high. There is different stories regarding the establishment of this temple. This ancient edifice is a Pratihara Vishnu temple. According to some tales, the temple is so named as it is believed to be made-up in the 'Telangana' architectural style. Though others believe that it is named after the 'Telis' (oil merchants) who built it. The temple present a fine example of the blend of Dravidian and Indo-Aryan style.

Saas-Bahu Temple:
This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnuand was built in 11th century. The temple is not dedicated to 'Saas' (mother-in-law) and 'Bahu' (daughter-in-law) as the name indicates. As the two temples linked with each other so that the figurative name is given to this temple.

Jai Vilas Palace:
This palace defines the meaning of royal life and the current residence of the Scindia family. The 35 rooms of this palace has been converted into the museum. It is built in Italian, Corinthian and Tuscan style. Experience the royalty in the princely objects such as Ceilings picked out in gilt, heavy draperies and tapestries, fine Persian carpets, and antique furniture.

Tomb of Tansen:
It is the tomb of unmatched and master of Indian classical music, Tansen. It is built in style of Mughal architecture. The headstone is surrounded by beautiful gardens on all its sides. Every year Tansen Music Festival is held here.

Mausoleum of Ghaus Mohammed:
It is located in old town of Hazira which was built in 16th century. Ghaus Mohammed was the person who helped Babur to annex the Gwalior Fort. It is another finest piece of mughal architecture which is surrounded by gardens.
