Overview Cuttack

Cuttack is the one of the oldest District of Odisha and also the headquarters of Cuttack District. The Cuttack word emanates from Sanskrit Word ‘Kataka’ which means a Government seat or a military camp preserved by an army. Cuttack city was founded in 989 A.D and was established as a military settlement in 989 A.D.M. Cuttack City is also called as the Millennium City due to his history of 1000 years and also known for silver filigree work.

It is also known as the commercial capital of Odisha because it is the presence of a large number of trading and business houses. The city is the part of Municipal Corporation of Cuttack and the city has 59 wards. The city is placed at the center between four rivers Kuakhai, Birupa, Kathajodi and Mahanadi. As per the ranking system of Government of India it ranks as Tier-2 city and it is divided into 14 Revenue blocks and 15 Tehsils. It is also known as the commercial Capital of Odisha.

The most important part of the city because it is at the center between of Kathajodi River and the Mahanadi River. The city has lots of temples like a Sri Raghunathjew temple, Gadachandi temple Maa Katak Chandi temple and Gadachandi temple, etc. It is the birthplace of freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose. It was a favorable point of a contract between the English Merchants of Bengal and the Marathas of Nagpur.

In 1803, it was engaged by the British and later became the capital of Odisha division in 1816. Cuttack is also known as the city of Bhai-Chara or brotherhood where people of the city residing without discrimination of any religion and staying to gather from long years with Cooperation and love. The city has the largest GDP as compare to other cities in Odisha because of textiles and handicraft business.
