Road Services
There are two National Highways for Chennai to Kolkata NH-16 and Machilipatnam to Pune NH-65 are available. The highways are connecting to other cities of the country. NH-16 and NH-65’s intersection is Benz Circle that is the busiest area of Vijayawada. National Highways Authority of India undertook the project named Golden Quadrilateral and NH 16 is a part of this project. The connection of Vijayawada with Jagdalpur is happened with NH 221 as well as the other areas are connected with district via roads and state highways. To provide the bus services on 23rd of September 1990 the bus stand named Pandit Nehru Bus Station was inaugurated. The bus station was called as Telugu Satavahana Prayana Pranganam but with the time was renamed. After the bus terminals of Delhi, MGBS of Hyderabad and CMBT of Chennai, the Pandit Nehru Bus Station is the fourth busiest and largest bus terminal of India. There are more than 450 city buses which are operated by APSRTC that includes the Ordinary buses, City Sheetal and Metro Express. Vijayawada is the first city of south India which introduced the CNG buses. The project named BRTS is on the way and has been completed almost about 90 percent.
Rail Services
Throughout the Indian Railways, in South Central Railway Zone, the most famous junction is Vijayawada Railway Station. The Junction is located along the Delhi-Chennai line and Howrah-Chennai main line. There are more than 320 trains which pass every day through this railway station that’s why the station remains busy. The railway station has shed Electric Loco which has capacity that maintain 100 Electric Locomotives as well as Wagon workshop at Guntupalli that is situated Vijayawada, Gannavaram, Madhuranagar, Mangalagiri, Gunadala, Kolanukonda, Rayanapadu, Ramavarappadu, Kondapalli, Krishna Canal, Nidamanuru and many other stations of the city.
Air Service
Vijayawada air services are well connected with domestic area. The Domestic airport is situated at Gannavaram. Gannavaram is located at 19 km from Vijayawada. The airport connects the Vijayawada to Coimbatore, Bangalore, Vizag, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad. Vijayawada serves its services through the SpiceJet, Air India and Air Cost. Annually more than 380,000 passengers travel through air services. The night landing facilities are also planned. The AAI (Airports Authority of India) is developing the infrastructural changes in the airport by using the modern technology such as a lounge for travelers and check-in counters.
