Food of Uttrakhand is simple and full of nutrition. Mostly People prefer vegetarian food yet non vegetarian food is also served. Rice is the staple diet of Uttrakhand. Most of the dishes are prepared from lentils. Coarse grain with high fibre content is very common in Uttarakhand dishes. Mustard oil, ghee or refined oil is used for cooking.

It is thick gravy prepared from spinach with the use spices
Jhangor Rice
It is a form of rice full of nutritions.
Jholi
It is local form of “kadi” prepared from gram flour, onions, curd and spices.
Phaanu
It is prepred from lentils. Before grinding all lentils such as Arhar, Moong or Urad are soaked in water for few hours.
Roat
It is sweet bread prepared from jaggery and flour. Mainly used on the religious ceremony.
Bal Mithai
Famous taste bud of Uttranchal. It is the sweet with unique taste.
Arsa
It is prepared from the grinding rice after a long soaking in water then mixed with jaggery.
After making a dough of the mixture, It is fried in oil.
