Education Thiruvananthapuram

The regional headquarter of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is situated in Thiruvananthapuram and also the campus of University of Karela is situated here. Apart from the university campus there are many professional, medical, law and engineering collages. There are fifteen engineering collages, three Ayurveda colleges, six other medical related colleges, two law colleges in the city.

The College of Engineering, Government Engineering College and Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering are the main engineering colleges in the city. Trivandrum medical college is the most prestigious medical college in Karela. IIITM-K and Asian School of Business both are situated in Technopark. According to the census of 2012, the literacy rate in Thiruvananthapuram is 89.36 percent.

There are also a large number of schools situated in the city like Government schools and private schools. Most of the private schools are run by the CBSC, ICSE and NCRT boards and government schools are run by the state government. Thiruvananthapuram city is a hub in the field of information technology, bio technology and space science. It is home to the Kerala Science and Technology Museum, Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute, Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute , Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology etc.
