Fairs and Festivals Ropar

True Punjabi spirit is indicated in the fairs and festivals of Ropar. Be it Holla Mohalla or Shivratri festival, the enthusiasm is on the peak. Some Fairs are celebrated to commemorate the sacrifice of the brave sons of Guru Gobind Singh.

Holla Mohalla of Anandpur Sahib

It is the famous and grand celebration of Holi festival. It is enlisted among the International Festivals of the world. Thousands of devotes from far and wide come to witness this festival. During the Festival, the main event was the mock war and the performance of martial arts. This festival is the display of masculine side of the Sikhism. The other awe inspiring events are tent-pegging, sword wielding, jousting and other war-like sports that are performed by Nihangs (the Descendents of Guru Gobind Singh ). The Nihangs carry the huge procession from the headquaters of Nihangs to the Lohgarh fort.

Shaheedi Jor Mela  of Chamkaur Sahib
Chamkaur Sahib holds historical and religious value. It is the site Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jhujjar Singh, elder sons of Guru Gobind Singh along with their followers attained martyrdom while fighting with the Mughal army. The Gurudwara Katalgarh Sahib is situated on this site. A big fair Sheheedi Jor Mela is organized in Chamkaur Sahib to commemorate the martyrdom of elder sons of Guru Gobind Singh . It is held in December which is lasted for three days.

Shivratri Fair Jatwahar
Shivratri fair is celebrated with enthusiasm in Jatawesher Mhadev Temple at Jatwahar village in Nurpur Bedi Block. Many devotees pay their visit to this ancient temple during Shivratri.
