Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand and also its third most populous city. The city was also the center of the Jharkhand movement which is called a separate state of the tribal regions of northern Orissa, Western West Bengal, South Bihar and the eastern area which is presently in the state of Chhattisgarh. It consists of 305 panchayats and 18 blocks. The name of Ranchi derived from the word of Archi. The state was built up in 15 November 2000 by carving out the Bihar Divisions of Santhal Parganas and Chota Nagpur.
Ranchi also has been selected to develop as a smart city with flagship Smart Cities Mission under the PM Narendra Modi’s. The city also known as City of Waterfalls because there are many waterfalls in the city such as Jonha Falls, Hirni Falls, Dassam Falls and Panchghagh Falls. The city has a hilly topography and its pouring forests produce a moderate climate in the state. During the period of British rule Ranchi was accorded a Hill Station location.
