Queen Of The Hills Mussoorie

Mussorrie, is also known as the Queen of Hills a wonderful place to take a break from the daily scheduled. Mussorrie is one of the favourite place for the honeymooners. Mussoorie is a loud place and full of romance in the air. This place is consist of summer resorts and a major source of cultural as well as the educational centre are arranged within one area. Mussoorie is at the height of 2,005.5 meters above the sea level. To be on that much height Mussoorie provides a beautiful view of himalyan peaks and the Garhwal. The Mussoorie is surrounded by the hills caped with snow are clearly visible as if you can touch them. The heavy snowfall and the celebration of Christmas are responsible to give the title of The Queen among the hill stations to the Mussoorie. Tourists are attracted to Mussoorie by its modern Bunglows, Malls and well maintained gardens which are easily located in the small hills around this area. Mussoorie is blessed with the gift of nature that it always appears bright and charming.

A Fascinating Past Mussoorie

Mussoorie the hill station was established in 1825 by the Captain Young. Mussoorie had a fascinating past. Mussoorie was never compare to the other known hill stations like Shimla and the Nanital. It always remains itself. Garhwal and Dehra is established by the Gurkhas and Umer Singh Thapa that the Mussoorie was came in existence. The history of Mussoorie was started by the Captain Young in 1825, an adventure loving British military officer with the company of Mr. Shore, the resident Superintendent of Revenues of Dehradun, they both searched the Mussoorie. Here they both constructed a shooting lodge, which is a holiday resort. This resort was named as Mansoor because in Mussoorie a local grass (mansoor shrub) is used to grazed by the animals. Before the Britisher's the local shepherds are there whose animals grazed the mansoor shrub. The officers of British millitary locate this area and they use to climb the hills for thrill and adventure. The both officer's Captain Young and Mr. Shore made there residents here far away from the dust of the plains. After seeing the increase in the chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, the Dalai Lama took a step to establish Tibetan Government of Exile in Mussoorie. But suddenly the Government of Exile was swapped to the Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh). Now a days there are 5,000 Tibetans living in Mussoorie.
