The city famous for its various sculptures and architectural and also there are many beautiful temples such as Tali temple, Tiruvannur temple, Azhakodi temple, Varakkal temple, Bilathikulam temple, Bhairagimadom temple etc. And some of these temples which contain paintings and sculptures of very high artistic order. The Thriuvilangad temple is very famous for its ancient sculptures. The city is also famous for its folk songs or ballads which are called Vadakkan Pattukal. Tacholi Meppayil Kunju Othenan is very popular songs which celebrate in the Robinhood of north Malabar.
In the festivals seasons there are most important functions are entertainments and performed such as Kathakali, Koothu, Ottanthullal and Kaikottikali and also there are ritual dances performed like as Theyyam and Thira. The Muslims people of the district singing Mappilapattu and Oppana which is the favorite pastimes of the Muslims. The most important and famous festivals of the city is Pooram festival which celebrate in the time of March and April, Sivarathri festival which celebrate seven days in the time February/March, Thacholi Manikkoth Temple Festival in February etc. Kozhikode also has strong associations with football ghazals.
Food:- Kozhikode is also called land of spices, Thalasseri biryani is also known as Malabar or Kozhikode biryani is very famous in the district. Kozhikode biryani is made by chicken, spices and khyma rice. Also huge amount of spices are used to make biryani such as cashew nuts, sultana raisins, tomato, onion, fennel cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, cloves, shallot, and cinnamon and small amount chilli powder. The city also offers various North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, European, Arab, Jain and Gujarati food and also offers both veg and non-veg dishes with great quality.
Sweet Dishes:- Halwa is the very famous sweet dish of Kozhikode it is also called black halwa which is made by palm sugar, refined flour and coconut oil and also used colouring agents to give the variations in green, red, orange with the flavors of mango, pista halwa and orange.
