Festivals Goa

The celebrations of festivals are worth seeing. It seems that people save their enthusiasm and thrill for the festivals be it Diwali or the Easter. The festivals show the harmony among the religious groups of Goa

Christmas
Christmas is celebrated here with such enthusiasm that is hard to find in other part of country. The streets are decorated as bride. Its celebration is somewhat like of Diwali celebration in north India.

Diwali

Diwali is the second meaning of joy and zeal in Goa. From crowded towns to serene villages everything is best at decoration and lighting.

Feast of The Three Kings

It is celebrated on January 6. It is celebrate in the memory of three kings who brought gifts for the infant Jesus Christ. The most colorful celebration of this occasion are held in the Reis Magos church in Verem and the chapel of Our Lady of Cures in Cansaulim.

Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of lord Ganesha. It is marked by the dance and frivolities lasted for eight days with the large procession. On the last day, the idol is immersed in the sea with devotion.

Shigmo Festival

It is local version of the Holi. It is celebrated in March. It is celebrated for fortnight. People play with colours. The annual sigmo parade which is carried in Panaji is the center of attraction which is carried by folk dancers.

Easters

The Easter celebrations is consist of huge church services. The gathering often overflows into the streets or the Services are held outside to accommodate everyone. Christian families mark the event with large clean gathering.

Carnival

The description of the festivals remains incomplete if not talk about carnival. It demonstrates the culture of Goa. It is famous carnival gain popularity even outside of Goa. The event is inaugurated by the King Momo who annouces a traditional decree allowing his subjects to forget their worries and have a good time. It is celebrated in mid February. It is much awaited colorful festival carried in parade and procession. For three days and nights the streets is full of colours. Processions, floats, the strumming of guitars, graceful dances and of non-stop festivity are the features of Goa carnival. The carnival allows people to indulge in merry making, drinking and consumption of meat before the restrictions that are the parts of Lent.
