Founded by Sultan Firuz Shah Tughluq (1351/88) on the banks of the river Sutlej, Firozpur today is a mofussil and
transport management centre and an ancient city on the banks of the river Sutlej in the State of Punjab, India.
Ferozpur is dominated by the Mughals.
The British Viceroy Lord Mountabatten gave Firozpur district to India which forced enumerable Muslims to flee in
the Chaos of partition from Firozpur to Pakistan. The Ferozpur is known as the important trade centre and its a
major centre for transportation services. The which had made his own name in the history in the British Empire, had
losted his commercial value because now the border at Hussainwala is closed after the independence. There are
many parts of Ferozpur district which are now named as Moga, Mukatsar and Faridkot. The Ferozpur has many
Baghs the famouse one's are Tulsi Ram Bagh, Gole Bagh, Nishat Bagh, Ram Sukh Das Bagh and Kanshi Ram
Bagh.
In Ferozpur there are alot of Baghs , some Baghs are maintained by the the private trust and some are by the
municipality. The Bagh which comes under the municipality is the Gole Bagh, and the other Baghs are maintained
by the individuals and trusts. There is a talab also named a Rani ka Taalab now a days it's dry tank, which comes
under the campus of an educational trust, it also consist of samadhis of Lachman Kaur and her husband Sardar
Dhanna Singh on its side. In the past the town was surrounded by the wall and this wall contains of 10 gates
namely are lhi Gate, Mori Gate, Baghdadi Gate, Zira Gate, Makhu Gate, Bansanwala Gate, Amritsari Gate, Kasuri
Gate, Multani Gate and Magzini Gate, providing security to the people which are living in the city.
Now a days only 5 gates are there and there name are Kasuri Gate, Multani Gate, Baghdadi Gate, Makhu Gate
and Amritsari Gate. Ferozpur was a rich city but after the time of British annexation its economy was declined.
Around in 1838, the population was 2,732 now is increased to 4,841. Sir H. Lawrence bring revolution in this city by
establishing the market place and the main market towards the east which is not there now a days.
