Digha is a sea beach town which comes under the Purba Medinipur district of eastern state West
Bengal, India. Located at the borderline of the Bay of Bengal, it is one of the most popular tourist
destinations in India. The town is always known for its beautiful beaches and sea sights that enchants
the hearts of every beholders.
According to Warren Hasting, the first Governor General of India, during British period in India, the
place was used to be known as Beerkul. In 1923 an English tourist John Frank Smith came here to
settle down who made frequent use of the place and its beauty in his writings that brought to reason to
develop the place as tourist spot. The Former Chief Minister of West Bengal Bidhan Chandra Roy
developed it as a sea beach town.
