Wilson College was founded in 1832 and built in 1840. The college overlooks the Arabian Sea, at Girgaum Chowpatti Beach in South Mumbai. Named after its founder Dr. John Wilson, (1804–1875), the college has played a significant role in the foundation of the Mumbai University and the Asiatic Society. The college was earlier known as General Assembly`s Institution and was later renamed as
Wilson College.

.....Continuing reading Wilson College consist of the subjects from the stream of Arts, Science, Commerce, Mass Media and Management Studies. The college is however renowned for its Arts stream. The various subjects taught in different streams are, Arts: English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Marathi, French, Economics, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology.
For professional or self finance the courses are: BMM, BMS, Comp. Sc. and Biotech and Science: Botany, Chemistry, Math, Microbiology, Physics and Zoology. Wilson College has a student’s council. The college library has a large collection of rare books that are hardly available in any other state libraries in Mumbai.
Wilson College in Mumbai regularly conducts CEP or Co-operative Education Programme. The aim of the C E P is to help students to understand the world of work, prepare them with the expertise and a mindset essential for success at a workplace. The Fine Arts Circle organizes inter-collegiate events, organizes competitions, workshops and cultural programs in the college.
Boxing, basketball, karate and Volley ball are the various sports available for students inside the college campus. A Nature Club is also run by the college where conservation programs together with educational activities are performed. In addition, hostel facility is available for both boys and girls in the college.
The Wilson College alumni includes various dignitaries like Prime Minister of India Morarji Desai, B.G. Kher, cricketer Dilip Sardesai, poet Nissim Ezekiel, Jane D`souza, VKRV Rao (founder-director of Delhi School of Economics) and Kevin Pinto.
Wilson College offers courses in languages like Marathi, Sanskrit, Hindi, Gujarati and French. The college has a very strong line-up of career-oriented courses like BMS, BMM, computer science and biotechnology. It also has a fair number of students from the Northeast.
