University of Pune – UOP was established in Maharashtra under the Poona University Act which was passed by the Bombay Legislature. The University is situated in north-western part of the city and is consider to be one of the best and most popular educational centers in the city. Dr. M.R. UOP is considered to have one of the leading chief for research and education in India. Unlike Shivaji University whose administration was restricted to 5 districts, UOP administration is developing above 12 districts of western Maharashtra. In early 1950’s, Pune University was spread over 411 acres. The University is very well connected from any other part of the country by means of air, road and railway. Mumbai is the closest city to the Pune University and it only takes half an hour to reach by air. UOP is encouraging External Registration Program for students who register for certain courses.
It also undertakes self study for the prescribed syllabus and students are required to come take the exams and get degrees for their graduation or post graduation. Pune University offers undergraduate degrees like B.A. and B.Com and also Post-Graduate Degrees like M.A., M.Com, M.Sc., M.A., and L.L.M. In 1949, the university had only 18 affiliated colleges. It now also includes colleges such as JHV KMJOKBNU, S.P.College, Nowrosjee Wadia College, Garware College, Film and Television Institute of India, College of Engineering, Pune Fergusson College with over 8000 students. After that the university grew and the numbers of other new colleges were also increased. In 2010, the university saw an enrollment of 496,531 students for both, the undergraduate and graduate courses, 433 affiliated colleges, 41 graduate departments and 232 recognized research institutions. Hence, colleges like D.Y. Patil College of Engineering were affiliated to the University and have got 630 seats for the engineering bachelors’’ degree. UOP offers 41 post-graduate administration, 209 affiliated colleges, 118 determined research institutions to about 1,70,000 students for both the under-graduate and post-graduate degrees.
University of Pune - UOP has a strangely admirable and picturesque campus with the lush green lawns decked with fine-looking fountains of the British times. The extraordinary building of the University is a point of attention to the imaginative conformed people of Pune, be it musicians, filmmakers or celebrities. It provides guest house facility with 32 well furnished rooms. Moreover, the university also has a hostel facility. It has 6 girls’ hostel and 8 boy’s hostels with the capacity for about 1200 students. There is residential facility for about 130 members of the faculty and 550 members of the non-teaching staff. The university also has an International Transit House with 42 rooms and 6 flats for international students who are visiting university as students or any other academics purpose.
University of Pune - UOP has an International students Center administers. This center manages all activities associated to the admission of International students through a rare Single Window System that was introduced in the year 2001. In addition, this agency also coordinates with the Indian Council for Cultural Research and Ministry of External Affairs. There are various embassies and consulates for different purposes which includes getting scholarships as well as administering with international partners of higher education.
The International students Center agency acts as a link between the students and the different heads of the Departments of the Colleges and Institutions which are affiliated under Pune University. The most important aim of the university is to construct technologically equipped thought and action leaders in an extensive range of spheres by providing value based and high quality education.....Reading in short
