University of Mysore: UOM was founded by the Maharaja of Mysore on 27 July 1916 during the rule of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV in Karnataka. It was the first university to be set up as an independent educational body that did not fall under the scope of the British provincial reign. University of Madras: UOM was embarked in providing education with four departments that is Science, Arts, Medicine and Engineering and Technology. The university has set up severed boards of examination and studies in 28 curriculums and has 37 postgraduate departments, 8 specialized research & training centers and 2 postgraduate centers. It offers about 55 usual intellectual affairs to 3,500 students and also runs a number of employment-relevant diploma courses and certificate programmes. UOM: The main campus of the University features an amphitheater, an auditorium, a swimming pool, and hostel accommodation with modernistic service and comforts. The University sprawls in a pictorial prismatic area of 739 acres at the western end of the Kukkarahalli Lake and collaborates internationally for the prospect of technical, academic and cultural exchange. The Headquarters and the Crawford Hall of the University are located on the eastern end, right across the lake. This induce locus of the campus was adeptly named as Manasagangotri (Fountainhead of the Ganges of the Mind). The University also has two more campuses which are located at Hemagangotri (Mysore University Postgraduate Center) in Hassan and the Tubinakere (Sir M.Visvesvaraya Postgraduate Center) in Mandya.
University of Mysore has established attractive framework for the students in both curricular and co-curricular activities. It has one of the ancient and booming Libraries in the country and called as the Mother of other Libraries in Karnataka. The library started functioning in the year of 1918 and comprises over 100.000 journal volumes, 2,400 journal titles and 800,000 books. UOM library has a brilliant record of 91 years of admirable labor with resource number of 6 lakhs volumes in its today’s system. This conventional building was inaugurated on 11th July 1960 by the first UGC Chairman Prof. C.D.Deshmukh.
