Sardar Patel College of Engineering - SPCE Mumbai was established in 1962 and was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru. During that time, it was only the fourth Engineering Institute in the Bombay region after VJTI, UDCT and IIT Bombay. The unaided section was formally separated from the college in 2005 and was established as Sardar Patel Institute of Technology-SPIT. Nevertheless, the daily operations of the two institutions are often a joint effort as they share some common facilities.
Sardar Patel College of Engineering - SPCE Mumbai is situated at Munshi Nagar, Andheri West, Mumbai. The college shares the campus with Bhavan's College that offers courses in Arts, Science and Commerce, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research-SPJIMR, Central Food Technological Research Institute, and two elementary and high schools namely Hansraj Morarji Public School, Rajhans Vidyalaya CBSE and Rajhans Balvatika, A H Wadia High School. Within the campus there is a tennis court, a sports field, a bank extension, a post office, a lake and a botanical garden.
The fully computerized Central Library of Sardar Patel College of Engineering - SPCE Mumbai is a treasure house of knowledge that consist of ever growing collection of over 44,000 books and 3,500 bound volumes of journals, both national and international, subscribed by the college over the years. The hostel building is situated at a stone's throw from the main college building. The institute is currently trying to cope with the need to accommodate the increasing number of girl candidates.
Sardar Patel College of Engineering - SPCE Mumbai began with three disciplines of engineering - Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Electronics and Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics and Telecommunication were started later. These four courses were privately funded by the college management whereas the Civil, Mechanical and Electrical courses were funded by the government.
Sardar Patel College of Engineering - SPCE Mumbai conducts placements activities for Final Year of Engineering Students. The campus has witnessed offers for over 400 students from an range of 70 companies, comprising of IT bigwigs like TCS, Accenture, Microsoft, Cisco, engineering giants like GE, L&T, Reliance, Siemens, construction behemoth like L&T ECC, Gammon, Shapoorji Pallonji, FMCG majors like Godrej, ITC, Marico, hospitality players like Oberoi and Taj. The college is involved in organizing Job Fair in the premises in association with ‘Times group’, which brings varied corporate & skilled professionals from the market under one umbrella. It is also involved in networking exercises between Industry & campus, specifically signing of MOU’s with Mahanagar Gas Limited, Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys to explore synergies.
In addition, it facilitated other student-development activities like organizing Emometrics sessions with Luence Consulting. The session was designed keeping in mind the students’ professional requirements, to provide a good opportunity in enhancing the qualities, capacities and competitiveness of students in college.....Reading in short
