Maulana Azad Medical College-MAMC made its modest beginning in hospital block of Irwin Lok Nayak hospital in the year of 1958. The keystone of the main building of the college was laid by Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the former Home Minister of India, on 24th October, 1959.

The college was set up twenty two years after the commissioning of Irwin Hospital, a well established general hospital drawing patients mainly from Delhi and from the neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
In Maulana Azad Medical College-MAMC, the Clinical Epidemiological unit was set up in year 2003 with the main aim to create epidemiological awareness among students, residents, and faculty members. It is anticipated that this unit will become part of the International Clinical Epidemiological Network (INCLEN) to make possible training and research in the institutions of this complex and also other institutions in the region.
Maulana Azad Medical College-MAMC is located in the capital city of Delhi. It overlaps the historic old city of Delhi on one side and the more modern Lutyen's Delhi on the other. The extensive campus includes the college and three of its major associated hospitals that are Lok Nayak Hospital and GB Pant Hospital and the Guru Nanak Eye Centre. Maulana Azad Medical College-MAMC has a recognized research society with main objectives being able to promote research activities. This society chiefly addresses research grants from non-governmental organization/institutions. The corpus fund formed is used to support guest lectures, grants for conferences, and other research activities of institution.
Maulana Azad Medical College-MAMC has one of the best libraries with an impressive collection of literature. The library is centrally air-conditioned and newly renovated It has spacious reading rooms for students where they can study up till late hours. It has a large number of books and journals and modern self-learning facility through audio-visual aids to keep the readers updated of most recent medical developments all over the world.
Maulana Azad Medical College-MAMC offers programs in medical specialties at the undergraduate, post graduate, and at the post doctoral levels. All these programs are recognized by the Medical Council of India and are affiliated to the University of Delhi. Maulana Azad Medical College-MAMC offers MBBS and BDS programs at the undergraduate level. It gives admissions to 180 students for the MBBS and 20 students for the BDS course annually.....Reading in short
