Economics PhD in The University of Manchester
1) Applicants for the PhD are expected to have a Bachelors degree at 2:1 level or above (or overseas equivalent) and a UK Masters degree (or overseas equivalent) in Economics (or related subject) with a minimum overall average of 60%, including a dissertation mark of 60% or above. We require candidates to have a Masters that provides a good training in economic principles, mathematical methods and econometrics.
2) Having an expert supervisor is extremely important for success in Research degree programmes and it is part of the application process that we seek suitable supervision for candidates. We cannot provide supervision across all areas and we are therefore sometimes unable to offer admission to excellent applicants. We strongly advise candidates to read the webpages of the staff or group in whose discipline they intend to specialize and to read some of their publications BEFORE applying.
