Indraprastha College for Women is the oldest women’s college in Delhi. It was established in 1924 as a part of a nation-wide campaign for women’s education and empowerment.
Indraprastha College for Women is situated 3 kilometers from the north campus of Delhi University. The college had its beginning in two rooms of the Indraprastha Girls’ School at Chippiwara behind Jama Masjid in Old Delhi with an enrolment of just two students. .....Continuing reading location. In November 2002, the building of Indraprastha College for Women was accorded with the Heritage Status. Indraprastha College for Women has frequently added new facilities to provide a comfortable working environment for its faculty and students. The College has computer laboratories, a big library with a Book Bank and an Audio-Visual Resource Centre, an Audio-Visual Production Centre, an auditorium, seminar rooms, two large hostels and a sprawling sports complex, including a swimming pool. The most recent additions are the new hostels and a conference room, both fully equipped with modern facilities. Indraprastha College for Women also provides basic medical facilities to its students to deal with minor emergencies. Efforts have been made for physically challenged students so that they are comfortable in the environment of the college. The Kalavati Gupta Hostel of Indraprastha College for Women is named after a former Principal and was inaugurated in 1952. The Hostel provides comfortable and safe lodgings for about 200 students. The hostel is equipped with a large and well-furnished visitors' room, a students' common room that has facilities for table-tennis, other indoor games, and a state-of-the-art entertainment unit. The newly built Indraprastha Hostel also provides accommodation for 166 students in well-appointed 2-seater rooms. Thirty seats in this hostel are set aside for students from the North-Eastern states. The College has three computer labs equipped with the latest IBM software and operating systems. Though these are meant for the students who are enrolled in the Computer Science and Computer Applications programmes, as well as in the Mathematics and Commerce departments, the labs are also accessible to other students. Other facilities, apart from wifi, available to students include the three well-equipped laboratories used by the Psychology department, the auditorium, the students' common room, Canara Bank Extension counter, the public telephone booths with STD/ISD facilities, and photocopy counters. Indraprastha College for Women offers a B.A. (Hons.) course in Mass Media and Mass Communication. It has therefore set up for its use an Audio Visual Production Centre equipped with sophisticated audio/visual recording and production technology. Indraprastha continues to be the only college in Delhi University offering the BMMMC course. Today, Indraprastha College for Women has over 2,000 students and offers a wide range of courses and activities. The College offers various courses in Humanities, Social Sciences and Commerce as well as several vocational courses. UG courses like that in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics, Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Hindi, English, History, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, and Psychology etc are offered. This college also offers PG courses like Master of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics as well as in Master of Arts in Economics, Hindi, English, History, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, and Psychology and so on.....Reading in short
