Dyal Singh College was established in 1959 as per the will of Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia. At the start, the
Dyal Singh College was controlled by the Dyal Singh Trust, but around 1978, it gave up all control and administrative duties to Delhi University, under whose affiliate the college falls.
Dyal Singh College, also sometimes called as Dayal Singh College or DSC/DSCDU, is located in the South Campus of Delhi University.

Dyal Singh College takes interest in research programmes besides teaching and at present eight research programmes are going on in the College in the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Political Science and Commerce. Currently, there are 3300 students in the college including foreign students in 19 courses which includes 2 post graduate courses. The 19 departments in the college have more than 200 well qualified faculty members and about 100 non teaching staff members.
Dyal Singh College offers both Honors and Pass courses in different subjects. As a general rule of the thumb, Hons. Courses are more in-depth and complex than Pass courses, and an Hons. Degree holds more weight-age in the job market than a Pass degree. As a result, it is advised to pursue an Hons Course than a Pass course in a subject of the student’s choice. The most prominent courses at
Dyal Singh College are B.A. Hons in Economics, B.A. Hons in English, and B.Com. Hons. This can be said for every college in Delhi University as these continue to be the most popular courses year in, year out. Pure science courses namely B.Sc. Hons in Physics, and B.Sc.
