Students are normally admitted to the Ph.D. program, only if they hold a Master's degree in Sociology, or its equivalent, from a recognized university. In addition, a minimum grade point average of 3.50 is normally required. Students who have received or are receiving an M.A. from the University of Calgary must reapply for admission to the Ph.D. program. Students holding M.A.s in other Social Science disciplines who wish to apply to the Ph.D. program should as a first step consult with the Director of Graduate Studies. Such students will normally be asked to undertake appropriate background preparation in Sociology. In exceptional cases, the Department will consider admitting a student to the Ph.D program who holds only a Bachelor's degree. Students without an M.A. degree who wish to apply to the Ph.D. program should first consult with the Director of Graduate Studies.
