State Bank of India
State Bank of India is one of the leading multinational public sector banks. State Bank of India is a government owned bank. The journey of State Bank of India was started in 19th century with Bank of Calcutta which was further renamed as Bank of Bengal including the other two banks named Bank of Bombay and Bank of Madras. These three banks were incorporated as Joint stock companies and got the right of issuing the paper currency, but this right was taken over by the Government of India. On 27th of January 1921 these banks were amalgamated and re-organized the banking entity under the name of Imperial Bank of India. As per the provisions of the State Bank of India Act of 1955, the controlling interest in the Imperial Bank of India was acquired by Reserve Bank of India. Thus the Imperial Bank of India was renamed as State Bank of India on 1st of July 1955.
