Ooty is a very famous and popular town in the Indian state of Tamilnadu. It is derived from the word Udhagamandalam.Udhagamandalam was also known as tribal land which consists of Toda.
And in the Nilgiris area the major tribes are Kurumba, Kota and Badaga. The town was established by the British in the 19th century and also the summer headquarters of the Madras Government with nicknames Snooty Ooty. Ooty is situated 80 km from Coimbatore and also the capital of the Nilgiris district. Ooty is well connected by Niligiri Mountain Railway and Nilgiri Ghat roads.
The Niligiri Mountain railway is very famous due to their narrow gauge and mountain sightseeing. In the year of 2005 UNESCO added the Niligiri Mountain Railway to the World Heritage Site. And after that it is known by Mountain Railway of India. Ooty is also well known by hill station. In the town’s economy based on agriculture and tourism. The town is formally known as Queen of Hills which is located in the Niligiri hills and the meaning of Niligiri is Blue Mountains.
