Zirakpur is a municipal council and a town in Mohali district in the state of Punjab. It is situated on the Chandigarh-Delhi highway and towards the south of Chandigarh. Chandigarh is considered India's hottest emerging city. While there is little space left within the city itself, Chandigarh scores because of the rapid development taking place on its outskirts, in areas like Panchkula, Mohali, Zirakpur and Dera Bassi on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway. The town got its name from a small village 'Zirakpur' which is part of the present Zirakpur town.
For the regulated growth of the urban areas, the punjab government with the help of town Planning Department approved the master plan of the Zirakpur, so that the development process can go smoothly.
Zirakpur also have a great historical background as this town is associated with the Guru Gobind Singh, Bhai Jaita, Guru Tegh Bahadur, Peer Buddhu Shah and Dargahi Shah.
