KASHI VISHWANATH
It is the most holy temple of Varanasi and is devoted to the Lord Shiva. It is situated near
Dashashwamedh Ghat. The Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva in located in this temple which makes it one of
the holiest temple.
DURGA TEMPLE
This temple is dedicated to Godessess Durga which is built in Nagara style (North Indian
architectural style). It is the southernmost temple and holds significance. It got built by Bengali
Maharani. Commonly known as monkey temple due to presence of many monkeys there which
made the temple their home. Non Hindus are permitted to enter from courtyard but not the
inner sanctum. It is believed that the statue of Goddess Durga is not artificial but appeared on
its own in the temple.
SANKAT MOCHAN MANDIR
This is the temple dedicated to the Hanuman Ji, who is referred as Sankatmochan which means
who removes all troubles. Every Tuesday it is crowded with the devotees to seek the blessing of
Hanuman Ji.
TULSI MANAS TEMPLE
It is the Lord Rama Temple. It is also called Birla Temple which was built by Industrialist Birla
Family. It is near to Durga Temple. It is built in the place where Goswami Tulsidas created the
epic 'Ramacharitramanas'. It is built in white marble which in spread in vast area of green
parks and lawns.
BHARAT MATA MANDIR
It is unique temple without the idol of any deity. Instead of any idol, there is large map of India
carved out marble. It was inaugurated By Mahatma Gandhi. It is located 3 km from Kashi (Old
Varanasi).
NEPALI TEMPLE
It was built by the King of Nepal on the Lalita Ghat in Nepali Style. It is also known as the
“Kathwala Temple” as it is designed in woodwork. It is center of attraction of tourist from all
over of India. The temple was built by the workers brought from Nepal. Even the wood is used
from Nepal. It is interesting that this wood is not eaten by termites.
NEW VISHWANATH TEMPLE
It is located in the campus of Banaras Hindu University and dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is the
replica of the original Vishwanath Temple. It is built in white marble and was conceived by
madan Mohan Malviya, founder of University.
KAAL BHAIRAV TEMPLE
Kaal Bairav is known as “kotwal” which means Inspector of Kashi. He is known for his
fearsome appearance as he wears skull garland and the manifestation of Shiva. It is said that
even the death fear from Kaal Bairav the black terror. People who are on the visit of Varanasi do
not forget to visit his temple.
