Places To See In Vadodara

The BARODA MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY houses an exquisite collection of art objects, original paintings and sculptures, gathered by late Maharaja Sayajirao III.  The Egyptian mummy and skeleton of a blue whale are major attractions in museum. Other treasure includes the famous Akota bronzes dating the 5th Century A.D.


THE SAYAJI SAROVAR is one of the names of Ajwa Lake. It is formed by damming the Vaghali Nala and Surya River. It is main originator of water in city. The lake has beautiful garden that attracts local people and tourists.

 
AUROBINDO SOCIETY Maharshi Aurobindo Ghosh who one of the eminent freedom fighters and worked as vice principal and professor of English in Baroda college. His residence popularly known as Aurobindo Society where Yoga and meditation are taught here regularly. A nicely displayed small museum on the life of Shri Aurobindo's contribution can also be visited here.

DARBAR HALL
One of the most famous museums of the country, built in 1894. The picture gallery which offers an excellent collection of originals by famous British painters Turner and constable and many others .  A collection of Mughal miniatures, a full fledged gallery of Tibetan Art and oils by several European masters.

EME TEMPLE
It is the beautiful Shiva temple, managed and maintained by the "Jawans" of E.M.E., a cultural centre has also been developed by the E.M.E. around the temple here good sculptures of Gujarat, pavilions etc. are nicely preserved. Idols of Gods and Goddesses are beautifully placed on both the side walkways and they look very attractive when illuminated at night every day.
 
LAXMI VILLAS TEMPLE

The Royal Family's residence is an extravagant building in Indo- Saracen style. The palace built by Maharaja Sayajirao in 1890 is till date the residence of the royal family. Its ornate Darbar Hall has an Italian mosaic floor and walls with mosaic decorations. The palace houses a remarkable collection of old armory and sculptures in bronze, marble & terracotta.

KIRTI MANDIR
This is a majestic monumental building also known as Temple of Flame, built in 1936 by Maharaja Sayaji Rao to perpetuate the glorious memory of his beloved ancestors. It is the family vault of the Gaekwad rulers.
