Culture Udaipur

The city of Udaipur is a romantic place which had been the favorite place of the Rajputs. This beautiful city has received a rich cultural heritage from the bygone age. PEOPLE

Udaipur's people are really friendly and good to be with. On your first look, you will find them rugged, but these people are really good at heart. Untouched by the pace of modern times, these desert people are well-built, simple and cheerful. In this area people prefer to wear bright colored clothes. Usually people women here wear Ghaghra choli and men wear kurta dhoti. In the modern times, people prefer wearing casual dress to match the contemporary fashion.

LANGUAGE

The languages spoken here is Mewari, Rajasthani, Hindi and English.

CUISINES

The city contain variety of vegetarian dishes, and this place is highly overbear by Jainism and Vaishnavism. Food here is prepared from lots of vegetables and lentils. Spices in Udaipur seasoned with a great variety, which are very unique to the land of Rajasthan. One can find various types of curries ranging from Lentil to Yoghurt. Ocra and the beans of Sangri which is another name of dried mango is a follow by many meals. Followed by the deep fried breads and huge amount of chili makes the cuisine of Udaipur more delicious.

FESTIVALS

SHILPGRAM: A craft village Shilpgram which is just 3 km west of Fateh Sagar, which shows the traditional houses from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa and Maharashtra. There are demonstrations by musicians, dancers, or artisans from these states and it is celebrated for 10 days.

MEWAR FESTIVAL: The spring welcomes the Mewar festival. During the festival, the tradition and culture of Rajasthan dominates every other thing in one's mind. Firstly the worships are done and then cultural part of Rajastha starts.

GANGAUR FESTIVAL: In this festival women prays to the goddess Parvati, which comes in the month of March – April. A procession is taken out on this occasion which includes the image of Lord Shiva, horses and elephants. During this festival women carry the idols of goddess Parvati also called Gauri in form of a procession to Gangaur Ghat which is one side of Pichola lake.
