Solapur is the 4th biggest city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The city is well known for their fort and temples. Solapur is located on the border of Karnataka. The name of the city is derived from the combination of two words, Sola means sixteen and pur means village. The city is surrounded by all major cities of India such as Gulbarga, Osmanabad, Pune, Ahmednagar, Bijapur, Satara, and Sangli. In the city, there are the highest numbers of sugar factories. Solapur also has the world’s second-biggest and Asia’s largest spinning mill. The city is also the prime manufacturing hub of Asian cigarettes and tobacco.
History of Solapur
It has been said that Solapur appeared with the landing of Agasthya, the main Aryan who crossed Vindhya Mountains and settled on the banks of Godavari. Different sages likewise followed him and built up their monastery in different locales of the South. Different dynasties like Andhrabhratyas, Chalukyas, Rashtrkutas, Devagiri Yadavas and Bahamins ruled Solapur in various eras. While, the Hindu Chalukyas and Devagiri Yadavas ruled the city in early hundreds of years, it turned into a piece of the Bahmani and Bijapur kingdoms later. The city was likewise controlled by Maratha Peshwa. The most piece of the Solapur fort was built in the rights of Adilshah of Ahmednagar.
