History Shimla

The name Shimla comes from the Shayamla, which is also another of Goddess Kali. It is also stated that Shimla is derived from the word Shyamalaya, it means the blue house based on a house which was built by a fakir. Britishers discovered this beautiful hill station in the year 1819. Until then this area was under the Nepalese kingdom. When britishers came here Europeans started making houses here. In the year 1864 Shimla was announced as the summer capital of India. Shimla was the capital of undivided Punjab till the formation of Chandigarh (the present capital of Punjab) and was later named the capital of Himachal Pradesh.
