Patna is the capital of the Indian state of Bihar and also its largest city. The king of Magadha was founded Patna in 400 BCE. The name of Patna derived from the word Patil. The ancient Patna city was the capital of the Magadha Empire under the Pala, Haryanka, Shunga, Nanda and Gupta empires.
During the period of British Raj the city was part of the Bengal Presidency. Patna is also the second Indian city which offered free WiFi connectivity after Bangalore to its citizens.
The city is also unique having its four large rivers in its neighborhood and due to this it is the largest riverine city in the world. Mahatma Gandhi Setu Bridge over the Ganges River is the longest river bridge in India. It is 5573m long and which is situated in the Patna city. Patna is also the second largest city in the eastern India after Kolkata and 19th largest city in India.
Patna is located on the southern bank of river Ganga. In the year of 2011-12 Patna was recorded as a highest district domestic product in Bihar. According to the City Mayors Foundation and assumed annual growth the city is the 21st fastest growing in the world and 5th fastest growing city in India. Patna is also a very sacred place of Sikhs, Buddhist, Jain and Hindu.
