Ooty is well known by Queen of Hills, which is a perfect and most lovable tourist destination. Ooty is also the home of six tribes such as Kurumbas, Todas, badgas, Irulas and Paniyas. The culture and tradition of the Ooty are almost same for the culture of Tamilnadu. MAD is the annual festival of the Ooty which is celebrated with pure dance, art and music of the region.
These festivals celebrate in three days from Fern hill palace with strong artists and musicians. Thaipoosam festival is one of the grand festival which is dedicated to Balamurugar and celebrated in the month of February. The Ooty Mariamman Temple Festival celebrated in the honor of Goddess Mariamman which means Goddess of rain. Pongal, Bokkapuram Mariamman Temple Festival, and Aadi Peruku are also celebrated in Ooty.
In the town there are very ancient culture and art with a variety of music and dance forms. Kotas are the one of their own instruments, on which they perform dances and play music. Ooty is also very famous due to their styled black and red colored embroidery which is called Pungur, and that's done on bags, shawls, and mats. Terracotta is very common and popular tribal artifact in the region.
