FESTIVALS

DUSSHERA: Dussehra is a Hindu which is celebrated by the people with great joy, and observe for 10 days held in the month of October. The festival is celebrated in the honour of goddess Saraswati for first six days. Eighth day of this festival is address to Durga and the ninth day devoted to the goddess of wealth Lakshmi. This festival is celebrated in the whole parts of the country with great joy and curiosity, but there is no comparison how the Dusshera is celebrated in Mysore. This festival in Mysore is celebrated by dressing up elephants and processions are taken out, and last most important Mysore palace. Tourist are attracted by the 10 days celebrations of this festival in which important buildings are decorated and whole city is lighted. In this period of time gallant processions, a torch light parade, dance and musical events vitalize the placid city.

YUGADI: This festival is acknowledge as the New Year's Day in Kannada tradition. It is celebrated in the month of March and in the first week of April by the people of Karnataka. During the festival on this particular day special dinner is made, and it starts with jaggery and neam leaves. It also indicates that the life is nothing but a bundle of joys and sorrows. The city of Mysore also celebrate the national festival like Independence Day, Republic Day and the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. Also festivals like Makara Samkramana, Sri Ramanavami, Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Deepavali, Christmas, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha are celebrated with great joy.
