inhabitants. Kuluvi folk dances are the mirror of rich cultural heritage, life style and religious beliefs.
Dance is running in the veins of kullu. The group dance is also performed on many occasions.
Kahika Dance
Kahika dance is celebrated in the valley of himachal pradesh. It is performed on the occasion of
kahika fair. Kahika dance is very popular during the fair. A man is made unconscious for one or two
hours by the divine power. He is called 'Naurh'. The wife of 'Naurh', called 'Naurhan' performs this
dance around the temple in front of the palanquin of the local god.
Charasay-Tarasay
Charasay Tarasay is a popular women folk dance in kullu. It is performed during the month of
march and april. It is also known as 'Birshu-Nirshu'. Generally it is performed by the married women
without any musical instrument. It starts in the evening and ends in the morning.
Lalharhi
Lalhari is a folk dance. It is performed by the unmarried women. The dance is performed
without any musical instrument. The dancers are divided in the two groups. One of the row starts
singing, dancing and move towards the other row before coming back to their previous positions. The
other row of dancers follows the same step.
The Bandhu or Ghost Dance
This dance is another popular dance. It is performed in January from 4: 00 A.M. to 6: 00 A.M. It
is performed by the male members to protect their area from evil spirit. Due to its unusual ways of
performing, women are forbidden to see it.
Horn Dance
Horn dance is a traditional dance. It is performed in january to get rid of an evil king. It is
performed by six dancers. The long drama is enacted in this dance featuring the dancers in form of evil
king, deer and woman. Horn dance begins in a temple and slowly they move around the village.
Deo Khel and Hulki Dance
This dance also similar other dances. It is performed on religious occasion. The person who is
dancing in it is assumed to be possessed by the god who is called the gur. Then the crowd starts
followed the gur.
