Places to Visit Dharamshala

McLeodganj: This is the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama which is now a major centre for Tibetan Government-in- exile and Tibetan culture. The inspiring monastery has larger than life images of the Buddha, Padmasambhava and Avalokteshwara. A host of Tibetan handicrafts, ornaments and garments are available on sale and every Sunday,  look likes the open market. It has a School for Tibetan studies with rare manuscripts and  texts,  Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts and a handicrafts centre.

Bhagsunag Fall:  The Bhagsunag fall Is the main attraction of  Dharamshala. Close to fresh water springs, this ancient temple is 11 km from Dharamshala. It is a popular picnic spot and the famous slate quarries are close by.

Dal Lake:  11 km from Dharamshala and enclosed by deodar  trees, the lake fills a mountain bowl, On the motor - road, this is an delightful and serene picnic spot.

St. John's Church:  The St. John's Church is  7-km upward from Dharamsala, between Forsyth Ganj and Mcleod Ganj. It was built in 1852 and is dressed in grey stone with some fine Belgian stained glass windows donated by Lady Elgin. The church is popularly known as the church of St. John in Wilderness.

Chamunda Devi Temple:  The Temple is supposed to be more than 700 years old. It is a  big temple complex with a large pond where devotees take a dip. A large number of devotees come  to this place for devotion and to achieve spiritual harmony for their ancestors. During the time of Navratras, the temple is crowded by large number of people. Chamunda Devi blesses all her true devotees. Apart from these attractions, there are many brilliantly painted images of gods and goddesses.

Dharmkot:  Dharamkot is 11 km away from Dharamshala. On the top of a hill this attractive picnic spot presents a pleasant view of the Kangra valley and the Dhauladhar ranges.
