Bulandshahr is among the 71 districts of Uttar Pradesh. It has 862 villages and 15 mandals. It covers an area of 4,352(sq km) with population of 29,13,122. Bulandshahr got its name from the king named Ahibaran who laid the foundation of a tower called Baran in Bulandshahr.
Although the height of Bulandshahr is 764 feet only still it is popularly known as 'The high city' because it is situated on an elevated land. In ancient times the high city was named as Unchashahr but in 14th century when Mughals were ruling this place they changed the name in the persian languauge as Bulandshahr.
