Bhopal the capital of 'Madhya Pradesh', is a charming amalgam of scenic beauty, old
mythological city and modern urban planning. It is the 11th century city "Bhojpal", discovered by raja
bhoj, But the afghan soldier, “Dost Mohammed” was established the present city. His descendants
build bhopal into a beautiful city.
Bhopal today presents a multi-faceted profile; the old city with its beautiful market places and
fine old mosques and palaces still bear the aristocratic imprint of its former rulers; among them the
succession of powerful begums who ruled Bhopal. Equally impressive is the new city with its verdant,
exquisitely laid out parks and gardens, broad avenues and streamlined modern buildings.
The city attracted international attention after the bhopal disaster, when a Union Carbide India
Limited (UCIL) pesticide manufacturing plant leaked a mixture of deadly gases including methyl
isocyanate on the night of 2/3 december 1984, leading to the worst industrial disaster in history and a
loss of thousands of lives, and many serious problems that are inherited to the second generation after
that disaster.
