Barnala is a city in the Punjab state which is well known for textile market in the area. Barnala was named after Baba Ala Singh who conquered Sirhind fighting his battles from this place. Barnala is a medium sized town with all the facilities available within short distance. The economy of the Barnala is strongly supported by the rich agricultural village. Ala Singh constructed a stone wall around the town and built a fort, now known as Qila Mubarik, in the town. This fort now act as the courts of Additional District and Sessions Judge. The town has well known agricultural market for the sale of wheat, paddy, cotton and maize and is famous for the manufacture of modern agricultural tools.

Barnala got big manufacturing units such as Trident Group, Malwa Cotton, Geeta Threads etc. Two leading combine manufacturers of India, Standard Combines, and Balkar Combines are in Handiaya village, which is about 5 kms from Barnala. It is well known for textiles as world famous Trident Company is situated here which is renowned for producing towels etc.
