ALIGARH FORT: It is the medieval structure which is the witness of important events of history
such as the mutiny of 1857 and the battle of Ally Ghur (Aligarh). It is the one of the strongest
forts of India built by Muhammad, son of Umar the governor of Kol, in 1524-25 during the
time of Ibrahim Lodhi. Later on it was rebuilt by Sabit Khan who was the governor of this area
during time of Farrukh Siyar and Muhammad Shah. Madhavrao Scindia in 1759 converted it in
the drilling area where he organized his battalions in the European fashion with the help of
French soldier Benoît de Boigne.
Meanwhile of Ally Ghur battle, It was snatched from the Marathas under the guidance of a
French President Perron by Lord Gerard Lake”s British army, in September 1803, since which
time it has been much strengthened and improved. In 1857, the troops rebelled were stationed
in the fort. Now it comes under the authority of Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim
University which maintains a botanical garden and other plantations.
SIR SYED MOSQUE: It is located in the University campus. It presents a luxurious view of
architecture. The tomb of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan is attached to the walls of Mosque. There are
many religious places such as temples and churches situated in Aligarh.
CHACHA NEHRU GYAN PUSHP: It is an Educational Depository located at Three Dots School
Complex in Aligarh. It was founded in the year 1982. Chacha Nehru Gyan Pushp is the house
of various biological, geographical and historical elements.
Many types of ornaments, minerals, rocks, stamps, and coins are captured in the Depository. It
includes a rare group of drawings, photocopies of paintings, outfits of different ages, science
equipments and models. It also presents some audiovisual shows. Chacha Nehru Gyan Pushp
Museum is open from 9 AM to 1 PM on all working days leaving Wednesday.
