Dindigul (also known as Tiṇṭukkal) is a city in the South Indian state of Tamilnadu and is the administrative headquarters of the Dindigul district. It is about 430 kilometers from the state capital of Chennai. It is believed that Dindigul is one of the ancient settlements of South India and has been ruled by diverse dynasties including the early Pandyas, the Medieval Cholas, Pallavas, Rulers of Madurai, Carnatic rulers and the British. There are several historical monuments in the city, among them Rock Fort is the most prominent one. Dindigul is also known by many names like Dindigul Anna, Mannar Thirumalai and Quaid-e-Milleth.
