Similar to the popular anise drops found in Germany, these little cookies are a pleasant way to freshen your breath and help digestion after a meal.
Ingredients:
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 and 1/2 tablespoon aniseed, slightly crushed
1) Beat the eggs and sugar for 15 minutes. The mixture should look almost white and should be thick. Stir in the flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, and 1 tablespoon of aniseed.
2) Grease two baking sheets. Drop heaping teaspoons of dough on the baking sheet, separating them by an inch. Sprinkle the remaining aniseed on top. Bake in a preheated 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 20 minutes. Remove them to a clean tea towel to cool.
Makes about 80 cookies.
