Aadhaar Card
Aadhar is a Unique Identification of person issued by the central government agency of India, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Aadhar is world's largest national identification number project. The agency was incorporated on 28th of January 2009 and headquarters of the agency is situated in New Delhi, India. The purpose of the Aadhar Card is only for PDS, kerosene and LPG distribution system.
The establishment of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) occurred after receiving notice from the Planning Commission of India. Infosys's co founder, Nandan Nilekani was recruited as the head of the project by the United Progressive Alliance government on 23rd of June 2009. Nandan Nilekani positioned just beside the level of Cabinet minister. In April 2010, Nilekani introduced the name and logo of Aadhaar card.
By July 2014, Aadhar card entered into next level and being used as an Adhara-enabled biometric attendance systems (AEBAS) in government offices. The main purpose of the Aadhaar biometric attendance was to check absenteeism and late-arrival of government employees and also services made to display publicly, by which any one can check the daily in and out of employees at
www.attendance.gov.in web link. But unfortunately, in October 2014, the services was closed publicly. Aadhar's last four digits and fingerprints are used for authentication.
Along with Sonia Gandhi, Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh inaugurated first card program. Everyone can get Aadhar card by applying online or offline mode against very small amount of money as a fee. Ranjana Sonawane was the first person who received Aadhar card for first.
