Belagavi also known as Belgaum is a city in the state of Karnataka. Belgaum (earlier called "Venugrama" or the "Bamboo Village") is the administrative headquarters of the eponymous Belgaum district and Belgaum division. It is the second capital of Karnataka and an important source of fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, poultry, mining and wood production. This city is the home of various large scale sugar factories. Belagavi has also been selected to be developed as a smart city under the PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.
