Manchester of the East Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is situated at the bank of the river Sabarmati. It is a leading city of Gujarat that is associated with the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, who established his ashram at the Bank of sabarmati. It is also known as the cultural and intellectual capital of Gujarat, the city has been a silent witness of the traditional culture and history of Gujarat. The city offers the traveler a unique style of architecture, which is a great blend of Hindu and Islamic styles.

Ahmedabad is Presently famous for its textile, industrial and commercial centers. In the 11th century Ahmedabad was ruled by the Solanki ruler,Karan Dev 1,until the 13 th century when the Mughal Sultanate captured it and ruled it. During the Mughal period,the city became a center of trade, mainly in textiles.

Ahmedabad was also one of the base camp for the Indian Freedom Movement, when Gandhiji created an ashram at the bank of River Sabarmati. In 1947,after India got its freedom, the city was made the capital of the new state Gujarat. Number of educational and research institutions sprung up here, Such as Institute of Management(IIM),Space Applications Centre and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
