Overview: Formerly known as the Thames Valley University, University of West London is a public university located in the city of London, United Kingdom. It has campuses in London, Ealing and Brentford, Reading and Berkshire.
Established In: University of West London was established in 1860 as the Lady Byron School and later became the Ealing College of Higher Education. In 1990, Thames Valley College of Higher.....Continuing reading Education, Ealing College of Higher Education, London College of Music and Queen Charlotte’s College of Health Care Studies were merged to become the Polytechnic of West London. In 1992, the Polytechnic of West London was granted university status and adopted the name Thames Valley University. Subsequently, in 2004 a merger with Reading College and School of Arts and Design was formed. Eventually, the new name of University of West London was formally adopted on 6 April, 2011.
Specialty: University of West London offers numerous programmes including Accounting and Finance, Photography and Media, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and Psychology and Tourism. As per university league tables, the University of West Lodon is ranked number one for Nursing and Paramedical Studies.
Campus Centre: The campus centre is home to the West London Student’s Union (WLSU). Th WLSU is the recognized student organization of the University of West London. The West London Sudent’s Union is located on the ground floor of the North Building at the campus located on St. Mary’s Road. The campus centre also comprises of coffee shops, a bar and a gym thereby making it easier for student’s to relax in between and after classroom lectures.
Hostel: Accommodation at University of West London is offered on campus only at Reading. Students from the Ealing campus were provided accommodation at a site named Paragon located at Brentford, which had won ‘Major Housing Project of the Year’ in the 2007 Building Awards. However, Paragon has been criticized by its residents for being far too expensive.
Infrastructure: In terms of infrastructure, University of West London has a well stocked library that is constantly updating its collection. The library is connected with media and computing facilities with the assistance of Learning Resource Centres that provide fully-networked, open access work stations. In order to help the students gain maximum benefit from the available resources, every centre consists of a workforce of advisers and subject specialist librarians.
Faculty: Currently, University of West London is divided into three faculties, comprising of eight schools. The Faculty of the Arts includes the London College of Music and the School of Art, Design and Media. The Faculty of Health and Human Sciences comprises of two schools: School of Human and Psychosocial Sciences and the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The Faculty of Professional Studies has three schools: Ealing Law School, London School of Hospitality and Tourism and the School of Computing and Technology. Programmes are taught by experienced academicians who are passionate about teaching. Students are extended additional support through the Student Services.
