Overview: University of Salford is a campus university located in Salford, Greater Manchester, England with approximately 20,000 enrolled students.
Established In: In 1921, the Institute was named the Royal Technical College, Salford. In 1958, the institution split into two different organizations, one remaining as the Royal Technical College, along with a breakaway college, the Peel Park Technical College. The latter then.....Continuing reading changed its name first in 1961 to the Salford Technical Institute, before it became the Salford College of Technology in 1970, and ultimately becoming University College Salford in 1992.
Specialty: In the year 1996, the break-away University College Salford combined with the University of Salford into a single institution. The Times newspaper ranked Salford 84th out of 114 United Kingdom institutions.
Campus: The main Peel Park campus is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) from Manchester city centre, adjacent to Peel Park, which first commenced on 22 August. There are also five self-catered halls of residence accommodating students from all of the faculties and schools of the University of Salford.
Infrastructure: The KidsCan Children's Cancer Research Centre is situated in the University's John Armstrong Welsh Laboratories at the Centre for Biochemistry, Drug Design and Cancer Research. It commenced in 2002 to develop treatments with fewer side effects for children and young adults. With seating arrangement for nearly 400 people, Peel Hall conducts many musical performances and is the core venue for the midday recitals.
University of Salford Robert Powell Theatre, stages live performances of modern works and participatory work for young audiences. Located at the front of Peel Park Campus, the Maxwell Hall hosts concerts and recitals. The building consists of an upper hall and a lower hall which collectively can seat up to 1020. Located in the middle of the Peel Park Campus, the Chapman Gallery conducts a wide range of modern and contemporary art exhibitions which displays the work of artists, university staff, students and the community of Salford.
Located on the Peel Park Campus and next to the Students' Union, the leisure centre consists of a gym, 25m swimming pool, sauna and spa, squash courts, climbing wall, and a multi-use sports hall.
