PEC University of Technology - Chandigarh was originally known as Mugalpura Engineering College at Lahore now in Pakistan on November 9, 1921. The name of the
PEC University of Technology Chandigarh was later changed to Maclagan Engineering College and it began functioning under the name on March 19, 1924. In the year 1931, the college got affiliated to Punjab University then in Lahore. After the partition in 1947, the college was shifted to Roorkee (India) and was known as East
.....Continuing reading Punjab College of Engineering. In the year 1950 the word east was dropped and it came to be known by the name of Punjab Engineering College. In December 1953, the college moved to its present campus in Chandigarh to function under Govt. of Punjab. In 1966, with the formation of Union Territory of Chandigarh, the college came under the control of Govt. of India through Chandigarh Administration.
PEC University of Technology - Chandigarh is located in Sector 12 which is the north end of Chandigarh. PEC University of Technology - Chandigarh campus is spread over an area of 146 acres of land situated close to the beautiful Shivalik hills. The campus has various functional zones like hostels, Main College Building, Administration Block, Residential Complex for staff and faculty and a shopping centre. In addition to lecture theatres, tutorial rooms and drawing halls, the college also has an auditorium, library, computer centre, reading rooms, workshops and well equipped laboratories. The University has vast playgrounds, tennis courts, squash courts, swimming pool, gymnasium and a student’s centre. There are branches of State Bank of India & Punjab National Bank and a post office within the campus. Hostel facilities for both boys and girls are available within the campus also.
PEC University of Technology – Chandigarh is comprised of departments of Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering. Now, the college has expanded & has five new departments in the fields of Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Production Engineering and Computer Science Engineering. Of late a new department of Information & Technology has been added. In addition to these courses there are eleven post-graduate courses leading to Masters of Engineering degree in Highways, Structures, Hydraulics and Irrigation, Rot dynamic Machines, Electrical Power Systems, Environmental Engineering in Interdisciplinary, Electronics Metallurgical Engineering and C.I.M. Facilities for post-graduate studies which exist for regular as well as for part time students .The college also has facilities for research work that leads to the award of Ph.D. degree in engineering in certain selected fields of different disciplines.
PEC University of Technology - Chandigarh has a library in an area of about 27000 sq. feet and organized into various sections, which are manned by professionally qualified staff. With a collection of more than 1, 08,028 volumes of books in science and technology it caters to the needs of about 2000 members for both staff and students. The library is currently subscribing to 72 foreign and 18 Indian technical journals in the print form. The library is also a member of Indian Digital Library in Engineering Science & Technology consortium under the Ministry of Human Resource Development since 2003.
The University has Training & Placement Cell whose aim is to provide employment opportunities & world class training to campus students in leading organizations. The University arranges training for students in industries for 4 weeks at the end of 4th Semester and 6th Semester. Production Engineering Department students are required to undergo Six months training. All the reputed organizations including Multi National Companies come for campus recruitment.
The placement cell organizes technical talks and national seminars to provide a platform for the budding engineers to interact with professionals from various industries. The college has signed MOUs with various industrial organizations and industrial chambers.....Reading in short
